Local Honeys with special guest Senora May
Morehead, KY
The Local Honeys are comprised of Linda Jean Stokley and Montana Hobbs. Stokley from the rolling hills of the Bluegrass, and Hobbs from the foothills of the Appalachian region have developed a sweet sound of the bluegrass kissing the mountains.
They have dedicated themselves to the preservation of old music and the creation of new music. Their songwriting often reflects subject matter that little girls ought not talk about. This element played a strong impact in the production and creation of their debut album, "Little Girls Actin' Like Men."
Including both traditional and original songs, "Little Girls" showcases the Honeys ability to tear into hard driving fiddle tunes, sing the high lonesome sound, and tell a damn good story. More here.
Senora May is a Kentucky-based singer and songwriter out of Irvine. Hear her here: https://soundcloud.com/senora-may-lainhart

Nicholas Penn featuring Seth Murphy, cellist of Bear Medicine
Lexington, KY Songwriting has been a passion for Nicholas Penn for 12 years. Over the years he has written hundreds of songs and developed his own personal style, flare, and lyrical themes. He is a performing and recording artist, and has enjoyed lots of positive feedback from my friends and community. He teaches songwriting and is a great match for the DIY, skill-building, make-your-own-gathering spirit of Whippoorwill. As he quotes Billy Bragg on his personal website: “Singer-songwriters can’t change the world. The only people who can is the audience. Our job as performers is bring people together to express their solidarity about ideas. If you want change, it’s your responsibility, not mine...” — Billy Bragg Seth Murphy has worked with many performing groups in Lexington, and pushes traditional notions of how to use the cello. One of his current projects is Bear Medicine. In the words of one of their supporters, "Lexington, KY's Bear Medicine doesn’t occupy a space–it invents one. Any description of their music using rock crit shorthand—“chamber-prog-folk,” for instance—seems inadequate, even misleading. To put it plainly, Bear Medicine leaves me speechless. Joshua Wright’s songs simultaneously nod to and annihilate time-tested songform traditions, while the band’s spooky energy and skillful arrangements combine to reveal a multiplicity of ideas within each strange, evocative song. Fans of artists as varied as Comus, Led Zeppelin circa III, Kayo Dot, and Townes Van Zandt will be unable to resist the Aquarian Dream Music of this precocious and deeply psychedelic young band."
