Welcome past and future workshop leaders!
We are excited to invite you to apply to teach at next year’s gathering, July 17-19, 2020 at Lago Linda Hideaway in Beattyville, Kentucky.
To share your skills for earth-friendly living, please submit your workshop proposals with a cut-off date of May 15 for workshop proposal submissions in order to allow more time to develop the schedule and share it with festival attendees.
We are looking for workshops and activities on the following topics: gardening, permaculture, natural building, tracking, fire making, stargazing, foraging, pottery, woodworking, appropriate technology, cooperative skills, herbalism, wellness/self-care, livestock raising, and food preparation/preservation. The following options are available for workshop/activity length:
We are still working out exact times, but are considering scheduling the afternoon workshops later in the afternoon/early evening to lessen the amount of workshop time occuring during the heat of mid-day.

- Are taught by local instructors
- Focus on the skills and folkways of our Appalachian region
- Are aligned with Whippoorwill’s roots in the movement for social and environmental justice in Appalachia. This includes workshop proposals on monitoring soil, water, and air quality, extreme mineral extraction, bioremediation, community organizing, civic engagement, human identity politics, and cultural appropriation.
Instructors receive:
- Discount admission to the festival on a sliding scale of $0-$50 ($170 value), with a $35 admission ticket for one assistant.
- Vending space to sell your goods/services, which is for instructors and organizers only.
- Free promotion of your business, including links to your website and Facebook pages, to our social media followers - nearly 2,000 earth-loving people. We will also add links to your pages on our website.
- An instructor gift bag, filled with unique, handmade, locally-sourced items.
- Opportunity to sell your goods to us for our instructor gift bags. There is a section on the application form for you to offer suggestions.

The following options are available for workshop/activity length:
- Workshop 1 hour - offered twice(back to back) during a 2 hour workshop timeslot
- Workshop: 2 hour - morning or afternoon
- Workshop: 4 hour - afternoon this longer time slot allows for more in-depth and/or off-site workshops
- Activity: for offerings that fall outside of the normal workshop times due to your unique activity needs. example, 7am morning yoga, 9pm night hike, etc.
